“Yesterday (Saturday) while giving away sneakers to kids in need at a back to school event (one of the things Shannon loved to do) I learned of the passing of my friend and Sole Reason Board Member Shannon Nichol. Words cannot express how saddened I am at hearing this as I am just able to express my feelings. Yesterday (Saturday) was one of those days I ask God why things happen the way they do and I always get the answer that maybe we aren’t  supposed to know but trust God.  The short time I had the privilege of knowing Shannon, this I can tell you, Shannon had a deep love for God, for her family and for serving our Topeka community. She was such a giving person of her time and talents, a true servant of Christ. In life you get a chance to meet special people only a few times and she was definitely one of these. I remember busting my butt trying to get things done for this years Sole Reason golf tournament but nothing in comparison to what she was doing. I told her I just can’t keep up with what you are doing. Shannon always had such a positive attitude and always kept me in line by saying 'Now Jerry you know we shouldn’t spend that much money on this or that for Sole Reason' lol. She has always been an inspiration that has pushed me to keep serving our area kids in need without thinking of myself and that will continue as well as helping me with my relationship with Jesus through her example. I always admired her relationship with her husband, Eric, and her children. You were and are greatly loved and will be missed beyond measure. I will see you in a bit. To Eric and the kids, my prayers are with you and if there is anything you need do not hesitate to ask. More sneakers. More smiles. Because of YOU!! You are one of the “Sole Reasons.”
